Ausf.J, L, M, & N, the latest reprint of the popular Panzer Tracts series from the new owner, Panzerwrecks. A 102-page soft-cover book.
Another in the steady set of reprints of this great series of books. Not simply a reprint, but revised with an extra 14 pages, along with 5 additional photos (now a total of 76) over the original edition, plus being on good quality paper and improvements in the reproduction of the archive photos. After a very helpful introduction it it is divided simply into a section for each of the Ausf. j, L, M and N plus another on the basic 8 series chassis, which was used as the basis for all these later model Pz IIIs. Significantly for the modellers among us, there is a 40-page section of first class CAD drawings, not only with 1/35 plans for each of the different variants, but with larger 1/10 scale plans for many of the smaller details of these vehicles. The detailed text, taken from original documentation, explains the differences between each on, and the different manufacturers involved. It does includes the monthly production records as well as the changes made during their production runs. Among the collection of archive photos are not only examples in service but there are clear interior shots, all clearly annotated identifying what you can see in each one. It will certainly help you in identifying the different Pz III versions in wartime photos.
With the improvements made in terms of layout and presentation, these are very nicely done, with extra detail. One of the things I particularly like is the quality 'feel' of these new editions, as I always think that the tactile feel of the paper in a book, as opposed to an electronic version, is such an important part of a physical book. For the panzer enthusiast and modeller, these Panzer Tracts titles really belong on your bookshelf in my opinion.
Thanks to Panzerwrecks for the review copy.
