Title: Painting Allied Forces in Blitzkrieg Europe 1939-1940
Author: Andy Singleton
Publisher: Pen & Sword
ISBN: 978-1-39900-567-8
A new addition to the series of small format soft-cover books on painting wargames figures from author Andy Singleton. A 122-page book covering British, French, Belgian, Dutch and Polish forces from this early WW2 campaign period.
After a chapter packed with tips and tricks, on paints, tools and other bits and pieces we get to the more specific guides. A chapter devoted to each nationality, covering Polish, Dutch, Belgian, French plus British & Commonwealth troops. These include the different uniforms and equipment of each nationality, and includes special topics such as tartan for the Scottish troops. Then there are additional chapters focussing on Skin Tones, Horses (Brown, white and black) before a closing piece on basing your figures. Detailed notes go with each chapter explaining not just the basic colours and which brushes are used for basic colours, shading and highlights and most useful for many I think, the sequence on which to apply them. All are accompanied by good quality photos illustrating each stage.
I am a fan of this series of books by Andy Saunders and this is no exception. The Blitzkrieg era is a popular and interesting period for gamers and modellers alike so this one should be popular. I picked up a number of tips in this one, even if I have been modelling happily for over 60 years now.
Thanks to Pen & Sword for the review copy.
